Hygienic designs provide cleaner solutions for manufacturers

Given the nature of the food and drink manufacturing industry, it is little wonder that the scope of food safety regulations extends much further than to require a basic standard of personal hygiene in the workplace. Certainly, in order to protect consumers against the ingestion of contaminated foodstuff, entire food processing areas are subject to strict hygiene procedures.

However, the inclusion of inadequately designed processing equipment within these areas is often responsible for undermining the attempts of food manufactures to undertake effective cleaning practices. Without proper consideration at the design stage of the environment in which the equipment will operate, the risk of contamination may arise through a failure to eliminate bug traps from the design of processing equipment. Bug traps provide areas on the surface of the equipment for bacteria to accumulate and which may subsequently contaminate foodstuff by being passed on during the normal course of operation.

When updating equipment, food manufacturers must take care not to overlook the requirements imposed by food safety regulations and choose equipment that facilitates adequate cleaning and which excludes such bug traps. Accordingly, Applied Weighing provides a wide range of equipment for when hygienic designs are considered to be an important operational consideration.

In particular, Applied Weighing is able to offer the Cleanmount II and Clevermount II range of loading assemblies. These are designed for vessel and tank weighing applications in the food and drink industries, where hygiene is the priority. When combined with a fully welded load cell, the stainless steel assemblies provide maximum ingress protection, with sealing up to IP68, and are capable of withstanding regular cleaning operations using high pressure water.

Furthermore, Applied Weighing also supplies a number of platform scales for food weighing applications. By incorporating four precision load cells into their design and offering ingress protection to the highest standard, Applied Weighing maintains that regardless of how difficult the application or how rigorous the operating environment, they are able to provide the ideal solution for their customers.

First established in 1990, Applied Weighing provides a complete range of weighing solutions and systems. These are custom built to meet individual customer requirements. Their range includes platform scales, silo and vessel weighing systems, drum filling systems, high speed weighing systems, telemetry systems and load cells. Applied Weighing products are used in a diverse variety of industry areas including pharmaceutical, food processing, milling and bakeries, aggregates and cement, fuel oils, chemicals and plastics. Their aim is to provide quality products on short delivery times, backed up with comprehensive technical support. Applied Weighing is an ISO 9001:2015 registered company and is certified for the manufacture of ATEX compliant products.
